A Reverberatory Furnace is a type of melting furnace where the heat source does not come into direct contact with the metal. Instead, the flame (or electric heat) reflects off the roof and walls - "reverberating" - to melt the charge in the hearth.
How It Works
The furnace has a shallow hearth where metal is placed.
Burners (typically gas or oil) heat the roof and walls, not the metal directly.
Hot gases circulate and reflect ("reverberate") down onto the metal.
The molten metal is collected and poured from a tap hole or tilting mechanism.
Advantages
Large batch capacity - can handle multiple tons
No direct flame contact = reduced contamination
Good thermal uniformity
Suitable for recycling (handles dross, scrap, and mixed metals)
